As a site-specific performance, each and every show is unique...no two shows are identical.

Swervy World draws inspiration from the physical space within which the performance is presented, at the same time we seek to reference the history and background of a specific area, as well as the diverse communities living there.

Swervy World will undertake initial research and a site visit to the area, but it will be the responsibility of the organiser to source a suitable venue, and secure all permissions and licenses for using the site.

Swervy World produces its own souvenir publicity post card specific to each locality and festival event. We will need access to the venue in order to carry out a site visit/photo shoot several weeks prior to the event.

Should a beach hut not be available, the show can be adapted to suit a variety of other environments and situations. For example, the show could take place in a camp site or caravan park (Bill & Vera's Camping Holiday), or even an empty shop front (Bill & Vera's Greasy Spoon).

If all else fails, Bill & Vera are able to provide their own 'mobile' beach hut. However, we have found that one of the strengths, and certainly charms of the show is that it takes place in a 'real' life environment - haven't we all wondered what it would be like to spend a day in one of those gaily painted huts on the sand? Well here's your chance to find out!

Duration of Show:

5 hrs continuous installation each day.

We have found that the show works better if it is installed for a number of days, rather than as a one day stand. This allows the content of the show to develop organically through interaction with local people. It also helps build awareness of the festival prior to the main event days.

Audience:

Capacity - The show can accommodate up to 10 people at any one time, and usually interacts with around 100 people per day, i.e. as 'co performers' who directly take part in the experience. However, the numbers of passing inquisitive and interactively challenged audiences can far exceed this figure and reach the100's per hour, depending on how busy a particular area is. It has been noted that some people choose to stay for a long time watching / photographing / filming the goings on without ever actively taking part.

'Friends' of Bill and Vera are welcome to drop in at any time throughout the 'show', and are encouraged to stay as long as they please.

Outreach Activities:

Swervyworld can also offer a series of educational or outreach activities to engage with the local community in the lead up to the show. For example, through reminiscence workshops or intergenerational activities working with young and older people, we can collect stories or images which then feed directly into the show's content thus enhancing the community specific element of the work.

Accommodation / Food Requirements:

Accommodation is required for 2 people - twin room
1 vegetarian, 1 eats everything (almost!)

Technical Requirements:

- A site - beach hut / empty shop front / campsite / caravan/ chalet etc. (We provide all of our own props and materials, deck chairs, tables, parasols, record player, crockery, tea, cakes etc.)
- Space - the show and its various props spill out of the beach hut onto the surrounding promenade or beach. Ideally we need a pitch with an empty beach hut either side in order that we may spread out.
- Secure Daytime/Overnight Parking required for 1 Vehicle
- Stewarding during show and overnight security in the case of  mobile beach hut installation
- We provide our own portable record player. Whilst mains electricity is useful, it is not essential, as the record player can be battery operated.
- Records are played throughout the performance. The show should be sited away from other loud musical or noisy shows and in a location which will not disrupt other shows requiring a quiet space.
- A near by mains water supply in order to replenish the tea urn (we can provide either an electric or gas tea urn).

Set Up / Get Out:

Access to the venue will be required at least 3hrs prior to the show start time for setting up. If possible, access the evening before the event would be preferable. Clearing away each day after the show takes approx. 1 hour.
3 hours get out time will be required on the final day to completely clear the venue.
