ABOUT US

Swervy World was devised in a lay-bye near Tavistock in Devon in 1996. Our directive is simply to make music in theatre and theatre of music, to travel and spread our performance net as far and wide as possible and work in a way that presents our world as we would best wish to see it....interesting, adventuruos, imaginative, safe, free thinking and fun.
We are a low budget grass roots company, you will find no arts funding or grant aid here.. However this need to make ends meet and keep it realisticly viable has become very much a part of who we are, and thus you will often find Swervy World performing in the street, spontaneus combustions of musical street theatre on a week day.
Freedom from grants also means we are not answerable to anyone official and this allows us the advantage of being radical in our performance (and sometimes Booking) technique.
We are not ones to rest on our laurels and mostly for our own interest and creative bent we are constantly devising new quirky and odd ball shows to present ourselves in the ever on going belife that eventually someone may like to book us, manage us, fund us, or simply give us a big mansion by the sea to retire in.
We are best known for the work of our bands (Swervy Foyer Band, The Fabulous Swinging Chandeliers, 1911 Ragtime band) and often we are mistaken as being 'a band' though a gigging touring band is only part of our work directive and since our inception, we have made some specific and radical touring shows that have highlighted our touring life...
Some amazing and daring highlights have been:-
A Horse drawn show in our first year 1996 named 'Horses and Hotrods'. The Following year 'A Desperate Bid for Stardom' A halarious send up depicting the four steps to rock and roll stardom, toured Cornwall and Devon in 1997. 'Alien Juke box' was our 1st masked show closely followed by 'Undead Jukebox' that was written specifically for the Millenium Dome in 2000. 'Deadheads on Mopeds' was a radical home made not strictly legal Moped powered tour, that somehow with no maps found its way to festivals in Holland and Germany. 'Deep Sea Jivers' was a watery themed show with a directive to be 'louder than a samba band' it succeeded! and Performed at Portsmouth, Brighton and Glasgow festivals (to name but a few).
Then there are the Christmas shows- 'Three Wise Men', 'The Rockin Santas', Dick and Ken the Dubious Dickensians', Elfish Pressie and the Christmas Crackers'.
And performance art installations- 'Art Car FM' and 'Beach Hut 118'.
Coming up in 2012, is a radical no bookings, no destination, no maps in the moment peddle powered installation....'The Thirteen-O-Clock Rock Up'... Exploring the idealism of escaping from time itself!!
